Lachlan Fraser-Bell

I design, build and ship things that improve access to health.

Currently a product manager at Healthylife, and on nights and weekends building Well.

A health companion that holds the whole picture, so you don’t have to.

React Native, iOS.

How it started A medal in hand, a fibula in two.

I love tracking my health data, probably past the point of reason. So naturally running was the perfect input/output. My days revolved around my Garmin, resting heart rate, Whoop, coaching plan, VO2 max, protein intake, recovery, vertical oscillation, warm ups, cool downs, Wim Hof. You get the idea.

I crossed the finish line at the Newcastle Half Marathon with a medal in hand and a fibula in two. What the physio had been treating as tendonitis was a stress fracture that had finished the job.

What followed was a year of x-rays, ultrasounds, and a slow road back. And the whole time, none of my health data changed with me. Apps still pinged me to get up and move. My running plan carried on without me. My daily steps fell to single digits, while I traded a Saturday long run for a hobble to the coffee machine.

That frustration became the thing I now build for myself. A health companion that understands your entire health context, so when your life changes, when the goal shifts from “run a marathon” to “let’s get off the couch,” everything adapts with you.

My eagerness to go all in put me on crutches, and then it started a company.

Now

Building for Healthylife by day, Well at night, and our own home on the Central Coast with my wife, our golden retriever Juniper, and our two cats.

I like constant forward momentum, which in my personal life mostly shows up as getting way too committed to new hobbies. Having just turned 30, you can likely imagine the teeth golf currently has in me.

Back running and weight training, chasing my thirties in better shape than my twenties. Currently drinking Lark Fire Trail.

Influences

Raycast On every device I own.

The attention to detail is relentless, and their build-in-public content, the “What’s in my Raycast” series especially, is a masterclass in turning craft into loyalty.

MyMind Still the best example I know of software communicating a feeling.

The art direction and onboarding don’t explain the product; they make you feel what it’s for.

Linear I moved my whole team onto it and never looked back.

“Software should be opinionated” is the position I admire most in modern product. I rated it enough to bet on it.

Dia / Arc Browser Company die-hard from the early days.

Arc reimagined an interface everyone had agreed was finished, and building in public carved out real loyalty. I’m still mid-grief on the move to Dia, but it’s slowly winning me over.

CleanShot X The best way to take screenshots and recordings on macOS.

People may think it’s crazy to pay for a screenshot app. I happily agree and pay anyway for this.

iMessage codes Not a product, a detail.

A verification code arrives, offers itself for one-tap fill, then cleans up after itself. Whoever shipped that builds for real people in everyday moments.

Notably absent: any consumer health product. Nothing in the category has cleared this bar yet, which is a large part of why I spend my nights building one.
